Minutes of the March 4, 2008 Sipsey Wilderness Hiking Club regular monthly meeting held at the Bernice Hilton Walker Building in Double Springs

In attendance were: Gary, Bart, Mike, Anthony, Jennifer, Larry, and Mimi.

Chairman Gary White called the meeting to order shortly after 7 PM.  The minutes were read and approved with one amendment.  Mimi also presented the treasurer’s report.

Old business. Concerning the plaque for T&F, Gary has found a local shop that should be able to accommodate our needs.  The club voted to have a digital image of our logo made and incorporated into the plaque.

Mike reported that Vince from Wild South may be able to attend our May meeting.

Larry reported on the successful March trail bed maintenance on the south end of the Mitchell Ridge Trail.  Mimi reported on the 203 hike.

New business.  Details of the March work day and the Big Tree hike were finalized.

There was some discussion on how best to help an Alabama A&M graduate student with her ongoing project concerning community interaction with the Forest Service in the Bankhead.  The rest of the meeting was spent planning dates and events for the next few months.

It was decided to try for a trail maintenance work day in April.  The meeting will be the 1st (refreshments on Foster) with the work day on the 5th.  The April 12th hike will traverse Sipsey Wilderness Trail 202 with cross-county hiking to several waterfalls.

Trail maintenance will take a break from May through September.  The May meeting will be on the 6th (Danny refreshments) with a Walls of Jericho hike/overnight(s) for the May 17th weekend.

The June meeting will be the 3rd.  An outing is tentatively planned to Stevenson Alabama, timed to coincide with their annual Depot Days Festival, probably the second weekend in June.  The date and other possible activities for that weekend in northeast Alabama will be firmed up at the next meeting.

The club meeting for July will be on the 1st and the club picnic at Brushy Lake on July 12th.

The meeting adjourned shortly after 8 PM.
